OPUS card with photo for students

Get ready for back to school and take advantage of the reduced rate for students thanks to the OPUS card with photo for students.

Get your student fare today

Like every year, you have from August 1 to October 31 to renew your OPUS card with photo. After this period, you’ll have to request a new card to benefit from your fare reduction.

How to get your OPUS card for students

Are you enrolled as a full-time student at an educational institution recognized by the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur (MEES)? You can obtain or renew your OPUS card with photo in one of four easy ways:

New for 2020

In person, by appointment

This year, due to the COVID-19 crisis, making an appointment is mandatory at most exo sales outlets.

If you are an OPUS+ subscriber, this is the most practical solution to renew your pass. You can do it in just three steps:

1. Make an appointment

Visit our appointment page and select the time and location that works best for you.

OPUS+ subscribers

If you are an OPUS+ subscriber, bring the email you were sent in August, if applicable, to your appointment. You will receive your new card for free and can renew your subscription at the same time.

Please note that only metropolitan ticket offices and the Châteauguay outlet sales can renew your OPUS card and your subscription simultaneously.

The appointment page will be available soon.

2. Fill out the form

You must fill out, print and sign the form and bring it with you to your appointment at a ticket office or sales outlet.

Depending on your age, certain conditions apply:

  • 13 years and under

A parent or guardian must sign your form.

  • 14 and 15 years old

Simply fill out and sign the form.

  • 16 years and over

The form must be marked with the official seal of your educational institution.

Alternative to an official seal

Certain educational institutions offer an online certificate of attendance, which may substitute a seal. If this service is available, the certificate can be obtained on the college or university’s intranet portal. You must download the certificate to your mobile phone or tablet (make sure you have an Internet connection) in front of the ticket office employee who is handling your renewal.

Download the form

Photocopies will not be accepted and the form or certificate of attendance must be dated within the last month.

3. Pay the applicable fee

Fees and validity period vary according to age group.

Don’t forget to bring ID that confirms your age (health insurance card, birth certificate or passport) to your appointment. Student cards ARE NOT accepted as ID.

Frequently asked questions

Who is eligible for the reduced fare?

Students enrolled full-time at an educational institution recognized by the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur (MEES) are eligible for the reduced fare.

If you have questions regarding your status as a full-time student, please contact your educational institution. They will determine your status.

Which documents do I have to present to get my OPUS card with photo?

You must present the following:

  • The duly completed "Reduced-fare student OPUS card" form*
  • A piece of ID that confirms your age (a student card from your educational institution is not accepted as proof of ID). Photocopies will not be accepted and the form or certificate of attendance must be dated within the last month.

A fee will be charged to issue your OPUS card with photo, unless you are an OPUS+ subscriber and present the email you received in August during your appointment at a ticket office.

*For students aged 16 and over, the form must be marked with the official seal of your educational institution. Certain educational institutions offer their students a certificate of attendance to facilitate their request to obtain an OPUS card. If that is the case, a certificate of attendance may substitute the seal, which will not then be required on your "Reduced-fare student OPUS card" form, unless you are sending in your request by mail.

Does my OPUS card with photo have to be renewed?

An OPUS card with photo has a limited lifespan. An expiry date is shown on your OPUS card. Your current fare privilege is valid until that date.

Is there a deadline to obtain or renew an OPUS card with photo?

There is no deadline. If you already have an OPUS card with photo, it will expire on the date noted on the card, and you will therefore no longer have access to reduced fares after that date. You may obtain or renew your OPUS card with photo starting August 1 in order to avoid the lineups in the fall.

Why is the student card issued by my school not considered a valid ID?

The information shown on student ID cards varies from one institution to another. When used alone, a student ID card does not show certain items of information needed for us to identify you correctly.

If my certificate of school attendance is available online, do I also have to present the "Reduced-fare student OPUS card" form with the official seal of my school?

In this case, the official seal (or stamp) is not necessary. However, in addition to your certificate of school attendance, you must fill out the “To be filled out by applicant” and “Mandatory signature” sections of the form. This consists of your permission to share the items of information required to issue your OPUS card with photo.

What do I do if I lose my OPUS card with photo?

An OPUS card with photo is always registered in the name of its holder.

To replace your card or retrieve the balance of unused fares on your lost OPUS card, go to a metropolitan ticket office or exo sales outlet with a piece of ID. A fee will be required to issue your new OPUS card.

We recommend that students who lose their OPUS card with photo after August 1 take the opportunity to renew their card while retrieving their fares.
