9 tips for safely using your face covering
- Wash your hands BEFORE and AFTER use.
- Place the face covering over your nose and mouth with one hand. With your other hand, attach it behind your ears with the elastics or strings.
- Adjust your face covering on your nose and below your chin.
- Keep the face covering on your face and avoid touching it. If you do touch it, wash your hands.
- Change the face covering if it is moist, soiled or damaged.
- Don’t put your face covering around your neck or dangle it from your ear.
- To remove the face covering, use the elastics or strings only without touching the front of the covering.
- Fold the outside portions of the face covering together and place it in a clean bag.
- Wash the covering as soon as you return home with the rest of your laundry.

Good to know
Children under 10 years of age and people with breathing difficulties, a disability or who are unable to remove their face covering without another person’s help should not wear one.
Wearing a face covering:
- Is meant to protect people around you (even if you have no symptoms). Non-medical face coverings have not been shown to protect the people wearing them.
- Is not a replacement for other protective measures such as physical distancing, hand washing, and coughing or sneezing into your elbow.
